San Felipe: El Apetito

I can finally say I've been to Mexico folks. I've been pretty ashamed about it because it's like right there. But the opportunity finally came this past weekend and there was no way I was going to pass it up.

Destination: San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. I've never heard of San Felipe, it's on the east side of Baja California. It's not as touristy as Ensenada, Rosarito, or La Paz, but that worked to our advantage. Not as crowded and slightly cheaper. Plus, my friend, Frank has visited San Felipe so much, he's like a local. So he knew all the spots to hit up. Ohhhh yeah~

One of the first places we ate at was El Apetito. Out of the whole trip, I think this was my favorite. Everything they make here is amazing and a great deal. The owner and servers are so sweet and friendly. It may not be on the boardwalk, but who cares. Trust me, you won't regret the detour.

Chips and all the Fixings

Don't forget to squeeze lime on top of your chips. Muy bueno!!! *drool*

Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus drink) 15 pesos

Very refreshing in the heat

Sope 30 pesos
Thick dough topped with beans, rice, lettuce, cheese, cream, pico de gallo, and avocado

Mmmmmm...yum yum! I can't believe I never ate this in Cali. Pretty filling.

Sope de Carne Asada
30 pesos
Thick dough topped with carne asada, beans, lettuce, cheese, cream, pico de gallo, and avocado

Carne de Pollo 60 Pesos

Chiles Rellenos 60 pesos
Chile stuffed with cheese and covered in egg batter and fried

Soo yum, yum! Never had chiles rellenos like this. Beans and rice were also delish.

Tacos de Carne Asada 13 pesos/each

You dress the taco yourself

Taco de Camaron (Shrimp Taco) 16 pesos/each
Taco de Pescado (Fish Taco) 14 pesos/each

Both tacos were super yum, but I think I would lean towards the shrimp taco

Did you know Rubio's was inspired by San Felipe's fish tacos? It was here that the owner, Ralph Rubio had his first fish taco and wanted to open a restaurant to serve them in San Diego. I have been known to stop by there and order up a storm during their Taco Tuesdays :D

VIVA MEXICO! hehe^^
