I have never had pupusas before, but when I heard about it from a friend, I wanted it instantly. Pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish that is made of a thick, hand-made corn tortilla usually filled with cheese, refried beans, and pork.

So I found the most authentic place on Yelp and drove over to Don Lencho with my friend, Christina. We both never had pupusas before, but knew we were going to have an amazing experience when we one, found out it was in South LA and two, pulled up seeing all the locals hanging out there.

When we found a seat, the waitress didn’t speak any English and had to find someone else to take our order (another good sign). Which I thought was very nice, but the person who took our order still didn’t have the greatest English skills. Also, no menus here either. So those wanting to practice their Spanish, come here! Don’t mind if I do :D

We thought they only served pupusas, but looking around we noticed folks getting tacos and fried fish too. But we just stuck with ordering a few pupusas for each of us. I believe from what we gathered they have cheese, pork, and combo. But, I could of gotten that mistaken hah. But we got the combo which I believe has pork inside.

Horchata $2

So much more cinnamon in it, yummy!

Combo Pupusa $3/each

Gosh, as soon as you cut into it, cheese comes oozing out. Add some hot sauce to it and you got yourself a treat there. They also give you coleslaw, but I’m not a fan of it. Either way, I highly recommend stopping by, even though it may be out of some folks comfort zone. But, it’s so worth it. Let me know if you get anything else there, I want to try their fried fish sometime soon!
