A while back ago I went rock climbing with Grant and Kaycee out in Big Bear. Of course we worked up an appetite that we were ready to fuel up on on something delicious. I discovered that there was a Nepalese/Indian place called Himalayan Restaurant that had some decent reviews in Big Bear Lake, so we cruised on over to check it out.
Sadly, my camera was low on batteries so I wasn’t able to take many pictures except for the essentials. The number one thing being their appetizer, the chicken mo-mo. Their other dishes were good, but their star dish is their mo-mo dumplings. I totally get why this is one of the most popular snacks in that region.
Chicken Mo-Mo $7.95
The most popular snack throughout the Tibetan and Nepalese communities. The steamed dumplings are stuffed with ground chicken and served with homemade achaar dipping sauce.
This isn’t the best picture, but these dumplings were amazing. I almost didn’t order them because my mom makes great dumplings, but the waiter promised me that I wouldn’t be disappointed and that it would be a treat I wouldn’t find at most restaurants. He was dead-on and I was so glad I took his recommendation. This was the star dish for me. The chicken is minced up with what I believe was onions, garlic, ginger, and curry. So great along with the achaar dipping sauce which is curry based. Any fan of dumplings and curry flavor will love this dish.
