I was invited to check out Sublime Alehouse which is located along Old Restaurant Row in San Marcos within the great North County Beer Triangle. Any beer geek would be impressed by the owner, James Limjoco intricately chosen beer list with over 40 craft beers on tap. Yup, I was pretty much in beer heaven!

I like the setup of the place, it’s just like the menu offering options to appeal to each person’s taste. They have an area with long communal picnic benches, which reminded me of Pizza Port. This is great for big groups or for those who like the extra surface area for all their food ;) By the way, the photo above was taken during early dinner hours, by the time I left the place was packed.

Then they have a rectangle shaped bar with TVs to entertain the sports fanatics, or those who love to banter with the bartenders and neighboring strangers.

Last but not least, an area for the dinning tables for those guests seeking more of an intimate gathering.

Truffle Fries with Parmesan $7
Comes with two choices of aioli

I heard great things about their truffle fries and they were delicious. I personally wish they were a bit crispier, but liked how they didn’t over do it with the truffle oil like some other places. The parmesan was also a nice touch. They have around 10 housemade aiolis to choose from, but I wasn’t going crazy for them. I preferred to just enjoy the fries how they were. However, my favorite out of the aiolis was the lemon basil.

Hoppy Beer Flight $10
High Water Hop Riot, Ballast Point Sculpin, Speakeasy Double Daddy, and Coronado Idiot IPA

Ahh…craft beer! So many to choose from, I didn’t know what to do. That’s why I love that they serve beer flights here, so convenient. With over 40 craft beers on tap, you definitely want to have more than a few and still drive home safely. Besides the Hoppy Flight, they offer a San Diego Flight, Belgian Style Flight, German Flight, or Create Your Own Flight.

Beer Cheese Soup $3.50

What, beer cheese soup! Never heard or tried such a thing, but tasted great. The soup was super rich and creamy with a very unique flavor that I couldn’t pinpoint. Either way, any cheese lover would be intrigued. I recommend getting only a small bowl since the soup is super rich and fulfilling. There is lots to order here, so you don’t want to get full off of just soup.

Small Sublime Mac and Cheese $8.50
Rosemary rotisserie chicken, mushrooms, applewood smoked bacon, truffle oil

Sublime Alehouse’s Mac & Cheese are made with a creamy bechamel sauce including sharp cheddar and Monterrey jack cheese and topped with a parmesan breadcrumb crust. I personally didn’t like their mac and cheese and I’m thinking it is because of their blend of cheese that didn’t work for me. Their beer cheese mac I would check out though since I did enjoy their soup of it. My favorite American (New) mac and cheese is still at Vino Veritas. So good!

Slap Yo Mama Burger $12.50
Brie, caramelized onion, bacon jam. Served with fries or salad.

I was excited to check out one of their burgers since they are made from a mix of brisket and top sirloin that are ground fresh each morning, in house. Sounds amazing to me, so I went with the server’s recommendation of getting the Slap Yo Mama Burger. Well, it was good, but different. The best way I can describe it, tasted like meatloaf and the caramelized onions sure added to the delusion. I personally wouldn’t suggest it and would suggest ordering a pizza instead.

12″ First Kiss Pizza $14
Tomatoes and basil with an olive oil and garlic base

Their pizza is amazing and made using an unconventional poolish yeast starter method. I also love that they offer a garlic base on some of their pizza and highly recommend it. Though it is on the thinner side, don’t expect a thin, crispy crust like a NY pizza would. The crust has much more dough to it as you can see from the picture, which I felt was a good ratio of it. Also, since they use an unconventional method to their pizza, you will taste a difference. The best way I can describe it, tasted like sourdough which I really enjoyed.

Out of everything, the highlights were of course their craft beer list and their delicious pizza with a garlic base. NOM NOM, enjoy!

This meal was complimentary and provided by the restaurant. I was not compensated for the review and all the opinions are my own.
