While visiting Sedona there was only one place I was dying to check out, Elote Cafe. I read such amazing reviews that I knew I had to go. The downside is that the wait is really long. This is because Elote Cafe doesn’t take any reservations; it is first-come, first-served.
While you wait to be seated, they have amazing margaritas and delicious popcorn for you to enjoy. So just grab yourself a drink, some popcorn while enjoying the view. Next thing you know, your name will be called.
Also, the service here is amazing. Chef Jeff is almost always there and at times even serving you your entree! Moreover if you buy his cookbook, he will gladly autograph it! How awesome is that?
Tradicional Margarita $7.50
Cuervo Tradicional Reposado, triple sec & fresh sour
They have really good margaritas, just can’t have one.
House Popcorn
Sprinkled with chili powder
The chili powder was a nice touch.
Salsa wasn’t anything special. Just your typical mild salsa.
I was worried the pomegranate margaritas wouldn’t be as good as the traditional. However, I was pleasantly surprised. No artificial taste and just as tasty as the traditional.
Elote $7
Fire roasted corn with spicy mayo, lime and cotija cheese
So everyone recommends getting this appetizer, which makes sense since the restuarant is named after it. I reluctantly ordered it, since I thought how good could corn be? But just as everyone says, it’s DELICIOUS! The spicy mayo, lime, and cotija cheese makes this a perfect starter to any meal.
Lamb Adobo $23
Braised Rosen Farms Colorado lamb shank, sweet and spicy Ancho chile sauce and herb crema
The sweet and spicy Ancho chile sauce was delicious and for the most part the lamb shank was tender. Really enjoyed it.
Chile Relleno $17
Fire roasted Poblano chile, vegetable-nut picadillo, local Arizona goat cheese and butternut squash puree
I didn’t expect my chile relleno to look like this! I am use to having batter-coated deep fried roasted poblanos. Without the batter, it tastes completely different. Then add to the fact that besides the cheese, Elote additionally stuffs their poblanos with vegetables and nuts. Very hearty and a bit too much for me personally.
Elote’s rice was nothing special, but did enjoy their beans which seemed more Guatemalan style.
Mexican Chocolate Pie $8
Chile-infused chocolate pie with fresh whipped cream.
This was my favorite dessert since I heart chocolate. I loved that they infused their chocolate with chile and wasn’t too overpowering.
Pumpkin Flan $8
Baked pumpkin custard infused with Mexican Cinnamon served with candied pumpkin seeds.
I would of preferred more of a pumpkin flavor in the custard, but the candied pumpkin seeds were a nice touch.
Homemade Prickly Pear Sorbet $7
Sorbet fans will enjoy this prickly pear sorbet. Light and refreshing way to end your meal.
Don’t forget to check out one of the amazing trails in Sedona before dinner
