Next up on the “oldies,” but goodies is Tan Tan Restaurant located in Houston, Texas. Earlier this year, I finally made it out to Houston to see my friends, Rikki and Milton. We had the late night munchies, so Milton recommended Tan Tan. The main reason was because Milton wanted me to try their house special rice cake and french style diced beef. Mmmm..indeed!
House Special Rice Cake   $5.95
Sliced rice cakes are pan fried with eggs and topped with dried turnip, green onions, and crispy onion. Served with a special house sauce.
Starting off with my favorite dish of the night, the appetizer. Loved it! Kind of reminded me of the Korean pajeon (pancake) with all the veggies, but so much better. The chewy rick cakes surrounded by the crispy egglike crepe just makes for a delightful treat. Genius, really! Go ahead and just order one, but I am pretty sure you will order another one like we did. If I lived in the area I would easily just come to Tan Tan just for their rice cake. It really is that good and can’t wait to find somewhere in California that serves this.
French Style Diced Beef  $10.95
Tender beef steak cubes

This dish is normally served with some sort of pasta, but we got it without it. Very tender and simple treat to enjoy. Don’t remember anything else about it, except that I liked it. The star of the night was their rice cakes hah.
Combo Appetizer
Chicken lettuce wraps, fried chicken wings, and fried egg rolls

Rikki ordered this as a meal and enjoyed it. Though I didn’t have any, I thought I would share what it looked like.

Tan Tan is a Chinese and Vietnamese resturant, so the menu is pretty massive. I’m sure you will find something there to satisfy your taste buds. Just don’t forget to order their special rice cakes ;)

Thanks to Milton, I will always be dreaming about Tan Tan’s special rice cakes.
