Ah, Venice Beach! Even though I only been a few times, I love its circus-like boardwalk. A few weeks ago, I made it a point to head out there with Medi to try out a poke and bread pudding joint. Because desserts are always first for me, first up is Schulzies Bread Pudding.
I really enjoy bread pudding; however, I haven’t had many that I’ve liked. To date I only like a place out in Corona called Sugar Tart Desserterie which is sadly closed now and at the Prep Kitchen in Del Mar. So I was excited to hear about Schulzies Bread Pudding in Venice Beach because they make over 108 different flavors of bread pudding with about five to ten rotating flavors to choose from each day.
Another cool thing about Schulzies Bread Pudding is that they are environmentally conscious business. Schulzies Bread Pudding’s utensils, cups, napkins, and bags are all made of bio-degradable materials. While sampling, they don’t use plastic single use spoons, but silver spoons that can be washed and reused. Additionally, a majority of their ingredients are locally sourced, all natural, and organic.
Even with just 9 flavors to choose from that day, I was pretty stumped about which scoop to get. Thankfully they were pretty sweet and patient about me trying almost all of their flavors for the day. One of the things that did throw me off guard was the fact that most of the bread puddings are served cold. It’s weird because I normally prefer things cold, but not my bread pudding! I finally decided on their only warm bread pudding of the day, the Radical Raspberry and the Classic.
Single Scoop Radical Raspberry $3.50
Single Scoop Schulzies Classic Bread Pudding $3.50
Out of the two, the Classic was our favorite. However, we would of preferred the Classic to have been warm like the Radical Raspberry. It was a nice that their Classic wasn’t overpowering, but was simply delicious. Very different style than I am use to though, way more mushy and not as stiff as many of the other bread puddings I have had. Though not a huge fan of their bread pudding, I’m not going to write them off just yet. I am curious to try some of the owner’s favorites like the Essential Earl Grey, PB&Joy, and The Great Pumpkin. Hopefully next time Schulzies Bread Pudding will have some of these flavors for me to try out.
